How long does it take for infection to set in after whipple surgery? - whipple surgery more condition_symptoms

How long after surgery does it take for an infection?
I'm writing a novel, and one of the characters is an infection in the Whipple. My question is, how long will it take for an infection in Is it possible to infection within 8 hours or less determined would create? What are the signs of infection? A patient may refuse medication to treat the infection? If the patient refuses a medication for religious reasons and the resident doctor to the patient to the treatment, the SICU resident doctor, call your doctor for more help?

Just to give you an idea of my situation ... Oncologist treatment of patients with advanced pancreatic cancer. The Whipple performed. The doctor goes home. The patient has an infection during the night and the resident doctor on duty doctor. GP decides to go for the needs of patients and do not give medicines to treat the infection. Of causing the infection kills the patient.

Is this a likely scenario?

Thank you for your help!
